NAB Q3 profit rises 9% to $1.28b as loans and deposits grow
Total gross loans rose 6%, with both business and home lending volumes expanding.
National Australia Bank (NAB) recorded a statutory net profit of $1.28b (A$1.8b) for the Q3 2026 period that ended in June, according to a filing at the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).
Profit is higher by 9% year-on-year (YoY) and a 32% increase than the average of the first two quarters, the bank said.
Unaudited cash earnings are up 4% YoY to $1.3b ($1.83b) during the same quarter, and 2% than the H1 2026 quarterly average.
NAB said it saw good volume growth and well managed margins, offset by higher costs.
Net operating income is $3.91b (A$5.5b), a 5% YoY increase than a year earlier.
Total gross loans and acceptances rose 6% YoY to $580.95b (A$817.4b). Australian business lending rose 2% to A$352.4b, including 4% growth from business & private banking. Home lending also grew 4% to A$451.4b.
Deposit balances grew 7% YoY to $487.13b (A$685.4b) and is 2% higher than in end-March 2026.
Net interest margin (NIM) declined 2 basis points (bps) to 1.79%.
Expenses fell 19%. A key driver of expenses are changes to the NAB Group’s software capitalisation policy in H1 2026, resulting in a higher proportion of investment spend expensed in Q3, NAB said.
NAB also saw higher technology costs, increased depreciation and amortization, and higher payroll remediation costs, partially offset by productivity benefits, it said.
Group common equity tier 1 (CET1) ratio was 11.89% (Level 1) as of June, compared with 11.53% in March.
