Citibank Korea hits record Q2 profit of $133m on trading surge
Net income rose 86% on growth in non-interest revenue from core businesses.
Citibank Korea Inc. has reported a net income increase of 86% year-on-year (YoY) to $133.46m (KRW186.9b) in the second quarter of 2026.
This is Citibank Korea’s highest-ever quarterly net income, said its CEO Myung-Soon Yoo.
Total revenue rose 27% YoY to $262.92m (KRW368.2b) in Q2 2026.
For the first half of 2026, net income rose 75% YoY to $228.21m (KRW319.6b), whilst total revenue for the period rose 25% YoY to $498.78m (KRW698.7b).
For the second quarter, the total revenue's increase was mainly attributed to a 59% growth in non-interest revenue from core businesses, including fixed-income trading revenues boosted by favorable capital market conditions.
Interest revenues decreased 14% from the prior-year period due to a decline in the net interest margin (NIM), Citibank Korea said.
Expenses rose 16% YoY in Q2 to $82.95m (KRW116.2b), whilst cost of credit dropped 54% YoY to $7.5m (KRW10.5b).
Total loans amounted to KRW10.4t as of end-June, down 8% from a year ago, which the bank attributed to the ongoing wind-down of its consumer banking business.
Common equity tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio is 27.37%, declining by 6.94 percentage points from a year ago.
