Which Malaysian banks exhibit the most nature disclosure readiness?
Banks with stronger capabilities may increasingly support better borrower selection, amongst others.
CIMB Bank Berhad shows the strongest disclosed nature readiness, according to a report by UOB Kay Hian.
The Malaysian bank has moderate sector exposure, the brokerage company said in a 23 September 2026 report.
UOBKH assessed the banks across their exposure to nature-sensitive sectors, maturity of “Taskforce on Nature-related Financing Disclosures” reporting, integration of nature into credit-risk processes, and availability of nature-related targets and metrics.
Apart from CIMB, Public Bank is also said to screen relatively well based on these four criteria, UOBKH said.
Maybank benefits from lower exposure, but its nature-related framework remains at an earlier stage of development, UOBKH said.
AmBank Group, Hong Leong Bank, and Bank Islam all have relatively higher exposure to nature-sensitive sectors, the company said.
Bank Islam is said to show “more developed integration of biodiversity considerations into credit assessment.”
Banks with stronger capabilities may increasingly support better borrower selection, underwriting, and risk pricing, according to UOBKH.
