StashAway buys digital wills platform MakeGoodwill
3 in 4 of StashAway clients do not have a will.
StashAway is acquiring MakeGoodwill for an undisclosed amount.
MakeGoodwill is a Singapore-based digital wills platform that enables people to create a will online in about an hour. StashAway said that this acquisition enables it to support clients across more of their financial lives, from building wealth to legacy planning.
The majority or 3 in 4 StashAway clients do not have a will, the investment platform said. Amongst those who have a will, 40% told StashAway that theirs was out of date.
Only 22% of Singaporeans have a legally drafted will, according to a separate YouGov study. This is despite 9 in 10 saying that they will create a will within three months if the process was simpler, according to StashAway.
MakeGoodwill has made over 1,100 wills since its launch in 2020. To make the will legally valid, clients print and sign the will in the presence of two independent witnesses.
A will from the online platform costs about $140.96 (S$179), compared to between $393.75 to $787.5 (S$500 to S$1,500) typically charged by traditional law firms, StashAway said.
It also offers client support at no extra costs, one year of unlimited edits, lifetime access to the completed document, and a 30-day money back guarantee, it added. After the first year, clients can subscribe for S$35 a year to keep editing their will.
StashAway is a Singapore-headquartered investment platform primarily operating in Malaysia, MENA, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
