Maybank H1 profit dips 0.88% to $1.28b but Q2 rebounds on wealth fee surge
Net interest margin is 2.12% for H1.
Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank) logged a net profit of $1.28b (MYR5.17b) in the first half of 2026, 0.88% year-on-year (YoY) lower than a year ago.
Malaysia's largest bank by asset-size said that its Q2 net profit was $735.13m (MYR2.69b), higher by 2.4% YoY.
For H1, Maybank logged a net interest margin (NIM) of 2.12%, whilst core fees grew 12.1% thanks to wealth and investment banking fees. Wealth management fees rose 48.4%, lifted by higher investment and bancassurance income.
Return on equity (ROE) stood at 11.6%, higher compared to the 11.5% in H1 2025.
Group loans grew by 2.7% YoY to $172.83b (MYR695.9b).
For the second quarter period, ROE improved to 12% compared to the 11.6% in Q2 2025.
Net operating income was $1.87b (MYR7.51b) in Q2, with wealth, investment banking, and banking-related fees improving by 61.5%, 58.4%, and 2.6% YoY, respectively, during the quarter.
Net interest margin (NIM) expanded 10 basis points (bps) to 2.10% during the quarter.
Higher core fees helped cushion softer markets-related income, whilst group Insurance & Takaful performance improved amidst better equity market conditions, Maybank said.
