Asia trails US and Europe in $1.5b fintech funding race
The region secured just five mega-round transactions during the second quarter of 2026.
Asia recorded $1.5b in financial technology (fintech) mega-round funding across five deals in the second quarter of 2026, trailing the US and Europe in both funding value and deal volume.
The region accounted for approximately 22% of the $6.9b in combined mega-round funding recorded across four major regions, based on figures from CB Insights' State of Fintech report.
The US led global activity with $2.9b across 12 deals, followed by Europe with $1.6b from eight transactions.
Latin America attracted $900m through two deals, bringing the combined total to 27 mega-round transactions during the quarter.
Asia's five deals placed it third in deal volume, behind the US and Europe but ahead of Latin America.
Despite recording fewer transactions than Europe, Asia's funding total was only $100m lower.
Based on the reported figures, Asia averaged approximately $300m per mega-round deal, compared with $200m in Europe and $242m in the US.
The quarterly trend also showed that US mega-round activity declined from 13 deals in the first quarter of 2026 to 12 in the second quarter.
US deal volume remained below its recent peak of 21 transactions in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Meanwhile, Europe recorded eight mega-round deals in the second quarter, compared with five in Asia and two in Latin America.
Other regions recorded no mega-round transactions during the period.
The figures show that Asia accounted for a smaller share of global fintech mega-round deals than the US and Europe, although its funding value was close to Europe's despite having three fewer transactions.
Fintechs raised $2.3b across 116 deals, up from $1.7b in Q1 2026, but deal activity slowed across most major regions. Asia’s share of global deals was 19%, unchanged from the previous quarter, according to CB Insights.
