Malaysia’s GXBank and IFC ink risk-sharing deal

IFC will provide up to $4.95m in unfunded first-loss coverage.

GX Bank Berhad (GXBank) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) have inked a risk-sharing partnership of up to $4.95m.

Under the partnership, IFC will provide up to that amount in unfunded first-loss coverage.

It is the first time that a Malaysian digital bank issued a risk-sharing partnership with the IFC.

The partnership is expected to protect and scale GXBank’s lending portfolio, according to an announcement published on 14 September 2026.

GXBank targets a micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) loan portfolio of $110m.

GXBank said that 15,000 MSMEs have digital accounts with the bank, and that 5,000 loan drawdowns have been made.
