HSBC group chairman Mark Tucker announces retirement

The HSBC board has commenced the process to select a successor, it said.

HSBC Group Chairman Mark Tucker is retiring from the role before 2025 ends.

Tucker joined the board on 1 September 2017 and became group chairman in October of the same year.

The board said that it has commenced the process to select a successor. The process is led by Ann Godbehere, senior independent non-executive director.

“The board is conducting a thorough process to identify the best candidate to lead the board, and support group CEO, Georges Elhedery, and the wider management team, through the next period of development and growth for the bank,” Godbehere said in a statement.

Tucker will remain as a strategic adviser to the group CEO and the board whilst the succession process for a permanent chair continues, Godbehere added.

HSBC will provide an update on succession for the role in due course.
