CIMB receives accolade for Initiative Award for Asset Tokenisation - Malaysia

It aims to advance a tokenised financial infrastructure to democratise market access and address issues.

CIMB Bank Berhad (CIMB) took home the Initiative Award for Asset Tokenisation - Malaysia at the Asian Banking & Finance Corporate & Investment Banking Awards 2026 for its commitment to developing tokenised financial services in Malaysia, covering tokenised assets, tokenised settlement, and next-generation payment rails.

The various initiatives will be rolled out in phases through Securities Commission (SC) Malaysia’s industry pilot programme on securities tokenisation, whilst taking part in Bank Negara Malaysia’s Digital Asset Innovation Hub.

As a key near-term milestone, CIMB has committed to Khazanah Nasional Berhad and SC’s tokenised sukuk issuance pilot project, supporting the programme across multiple workstreams that cover structuring and execution through to custody arrangements and full lifecycle servicing. The pilot workstreams are expected to progress through 2026 with phased capability build-out aligned to regulatory and operational readiness.

The company’s development of tokenised assets is focused on raising efficiency and connectivity across payments and capital markets, whilst advancing the use of digital asset-based instruments integral to a modernised digital financial market infrastructure. CIMB is also building the capabilities to support tokenised deposits, regulated bank deposits represented in token form, as a settlement instrument for tokenised securities.
