SMBC completes sale of MANUBANK commercial unit to Bank of Hope

Bank of Hope has acquired all principal assets and assumed the liabilities of the unit.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has successfully completed the sale of the commercial banking unit of SMBC MANUBANK to Bank Hope.

Bank of Hope acquired the principal assets and assumed liabilities associated with the CBU, the Japanese megabank said in an announcement on 2 October 2026.

SMBC said that the sale does not change its consolidated full-year earnings plan for the fiscal year ending 31 March 2027.

SMBC first announced the transaction on 31 March 2026 and closed on 1 October following receipt of all required regulatory approvals and satisfaction of closing conditions, the bank said.
