ANZ completes Swift tokenised deposit transactions with Citi and BHP
ANZ used Swift’s blockchain ledger for the transactions.
ANZ has completed live corporate treasury transactions using tokenised deposits and Swift’s ledger.
ANZ worked with BHP, Swift, and Citi to complete US dollar payments between Melbourne, Australia and New York, US, according to a statement on 30 September 2026. BHP used its existing ANZ account to make the payments.
ANZ said it is the first Australian bank to use Swift’s blockchain ledger.
The payments demonstrate how tokenised deposits can move between banks through shared industry infrastructure, said Nigel Dobson, ANZ executive general manager for payment services.
“As the first Australian bank to use Swift’s ledger, our goal was to test how the benefits of new digital ledger technology can be delivered through the existing banking arrangements, using the accounts, channels and operational processes that our institutional customers already rely on,” Dobson said.
