ShopeePay and TenPay Global enable QR payments in China for SEA travellers

ShopeePay users from Singapore and Thailand can pay at Weixin Pay QR code merchants.

TenPay Global, Tencent’s cross-border payment platform, and ShopeePay have jointly launched cross-border QR payments in China.

Beginning 20 August, ShopeePay users from Singapore and Thailand can scan and pay at Weixin Pay QR code merchants using their ShopeePay and Shopee apps.

The service will be expanded to Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines in subsequent phases.

This is expected to cover tens and millions of merchants in China who offer Weixin Pay QR code payments, TenPay Global and ShopeePay said in a joint statement.

TenPay Global partners include PayPal, HanaPay, Travel Wallet, BCEL, and HiPay.

ShopeePay is part of Monee, the digital financial services arm of Sea Limited.
