Which APAC banks were the best performers in 2026?

India and Singapore logged two banks each, whilst China had the most at five banks.

Four banks in the Asia Pacific region—two from Singapore—ranked ahead of US giant JPMorganChase in Forbes and Statista’s inaugural list of the world’s top performing banks in 2026.

Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) and DBS Bank occupied the top two spots in the Tier 1 or “Global Banks” list, followed by India’s HDFC Bank.

China Merchants Bank, a partly state-owned bank based in Shenzhen, took the fourth spot.

The rest of the top 10 list were occupied by banks from the United States, Finland, Italy, and the Netherlands: JPMorganChase, Nordea Bank, Wells Fargo, UniCredit, PNC Financial Services, and Rabobank.

The rankings were based on customer evaluations obtained through surveys, predicated on financial data obtained through data providers like S&P Capital IQ, as well as desk research and banks’ data submissions in Forbes.com.

Banks in the list were evaluated based on profitability (30%), growth and earnings quality (20%), capital and funding resilience (25%), and asset quality and efficiency (25%).

State Bank of India, another Mumbai-based bank, ranked 11th in the list. South Korea’s KB Financial Group took 14th place, and Bank of Ningbo followed at 15th. China’s Bank of Jiangsu made it in the list at 18th place.

China Construction Bank—one of China’s “Big 4” banks and one of the largest banks in the world—is 20th in the list, whilst peer Bank of China was 24th on the list.

Amongst Australia’s lenders, Commonwealth Bank of Australia was the only bank to make it in the Top 24 listed on Forbes’ website, ranking at 21st place.

Tier 1 banks are banks with over $500b in total assets, according to Forbes and Statista.

In Forbes separate Global 2000 list of top public companies, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) is Asia’s largest bank and the sixth largest public company in the world. China Construction Bank and Agricultural Bank of China ranked ninth and tenth in 2026, whilst Bank of China ranked 12th in the list.
