ANZ cash profit 1% to $1.34b as NZ provision bites

ANZ said it is disputing a NZ$125m class action ruling.

ANZ logged a cash profit of $1.34b (A$1.9b) for the Q3 2026 period that ended on June, its lates financial report showed.

Cash profit is 1% higher compared to the quarterly average of the half year period that ended on 31 March.

Cash profit was impacted by a $72.92m (NZ$125m) provision in Q3 tied to a New Zealand class action ruling, ANZ said. The bank has appealed the decision.

Common equity tier 1 (CET1) ratio was 12.51% as of 30 June 2026, up 12 basis points from March.

ROTE was 11.54% in Q3, slightly lower than the 11.56% H1 2026 quarterly average.

ANZ CEO Nuno Matos said that the bank is on track to meet their return on tangible equity (ROTE) and cost-to-income targets.

ANZ continues in its integration of Suncorp Bank and is on-track to meet its FY2026 completion target of 57%, Matos said.

For the Q3 period, revenue was flat, with net interest income inching up 2%, ANZ said.

Markets income was $357.3m (A$507m), and group net interest margin (NIM) climbed 1 basis point to 1.54%.

Customer deposits rose 2% to $10.57b (A$15b) compared to end-March.

Net loans and advances was $16.91b (A$24b) in Q3, up 3% from the level in end-March.

Expenses rose 1% in Q3, although it would have declined by 3% without the NZ$125m provision.
