Bangkok Bank’s net profit down 16.2% in H1 on lower interest income

Net interest income declined by 12.4% during the six-month period.

Bangkok Bank reported a net profit of $605.94m (THB20.49b) in the first six months of 2026, lower by 16.2% compared to the same period in 2025.

Net interest income declined by 12.4% year-on-year (YoY) as a result of interest rate reductions, the Thai-based bank said. Net interest margin (NIM) is 2.46%.

Operating expenses declined by 6.5% for the six-month period. Cost to income ratio stood at 47.1%.

Loan growth continued to support operating income and partially offset the lower interest rate environment, Bangkok Bank said.

Loans amounted to $79.16b (THB2.67t), higher by 2.7% compared to H2 2025, driven by loans to large corporate customers and loans made through the bank’s international network.

Net fees and service income increased, which Bangkok Bank attributed to positive momentum from bancassurance and mutual fund services, as well as higher securities business fees.

Bangkok Bank’s deposits are at $94.95b (THB3.212t), higher by 0.5% compared to H2 2025. Loan to deposit ratio is 83.4%.

Allowance for expected credit losses to non-performing loans is at 306.3%, Bangkok Bank said. Expected credit losses are $515.37m (THB17.435b), which the bank said is lower than in H1 2025.

Bangkok Bank and its subsidiaries’ Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital adequacy ratio is 16.9%.

Thai banks' profits have been expected to weaken in 2026, according to an earlier report by CreditSights.
